Vaughan Metropolitan Centre: A Suburban (Urban) City Rises

Vaughan Metropolitan Centre (VMC) is rising on the outskirts of Toronto where a subway extension recently crossed the city line for the first time. This large project is transforming a suburban big-box zone into a mixed-use urbanized destination. SmartCentres Place is the 100-acre heart of VMC, integrating multiple modes of transit connection and a nine-acre central park around which commercial and residential buildings and community amenities are aligned to create green, pedestrian-friendly density and dynamism. Alighting from the subway at its terminus, the tour will include the first commercial buildings, including the new PwC-YMCA tower and a presentation of the master plan. The first three 55-story towers of Transit City will have topped out, with three more coming out of the ground. This residential development comprising 1,700 units was the fastest selling in the history of the GTA’s hot real estate market, testament to the draw of a newly conceived, well-designed urban center on the edge of the city.

Tour Cost: US$60 per person.
