The Indigenous Peoples Experience within Fort Edmonton Park in Edmonton, Alberta, CA is a first-of-its-kind, immersive exhibit developed through integration with Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation (MOU) Partners, the Métis Nation of Alberta and the Confederacy of Treaty Six First Nations, alongside Elders and community members. From the earliest stages of planning and development, engagement with the local Indigenous partners and communities, and integration of their voices into every step of the process and final product was key to the project’s vision and success. The Indigenous Peoples Experience has been transformative; proving that projects can be done in a different way and the City of Edmonton is now applying lessons learned and the relationships formed to future projects. Representatives of the Fort Edmonton Park Management Company, the project’s operator and nFusion, a Company of Nassal who served as the prime consultant, will discuss the project’s development process and key take-aways.
