Yonge Street is one of the longest streets in the world, extending 56 kilometers (34 miles) from Lake Ontario to Newmarket, Ontario. As the central spine of the city, it has always been a retail hotspot, beginning with the Hudsons Bay Company in 1895. Today, the street features retailers ranging from independent boutiques to large international chains. Toronto Eaton Centre anchors the south end of Yonge Street at Queen Street West. Further north, the first urban Ikea and a retail condo occupy the podium of a condominium building at Yonge and Gerrard. The tour will end at Yonge and Bloor.
