Nashville’s Journey to Affordable Living

Separate Ticket Required

Like many communities across the country, Nashville is challenged by a shortage of adequate affordable housing for its residents and attainable commercial space for its entrepreneurs and artists. Nashville is employing its collegial spirit in working to address this public priority and private development challenge. This tour will offer the opportunity to visit places deploying Nashville’s forward-thinking solutions—such as make/live spaces at Alloy and in WeHo, artist housing, and small-footprint Bento Box living—and to learn about tools being used in a North Nashville emerging arts district to minimize commercial displacement. Envision Neighborhoods, one of the biggest Rental Assistance Demonstration (RAD) conversions in the country, is a citywide public/private partnership strategy led by Nashville’s Metropolitan Development and Housing Agency (MDHA) to develop mixed-income, mixed-use neighborhoods with new affordable, workforce, and market-rate housing, complete with community amenities.
