Our cities are constantly evolving as buildings and their spaces are developed and redeveloped through cycles of population, business and industry growth, and transformation. Toronto is in the midst of a growth spurt of its own, with a surging demand for more places to live, shop, work, and play, resulting in the redevelopment of older buildings and sites, which can take years of navigating the planning, design, and approvals stages—with these places sitting vacant in the meantime. What if these disused spaces could be temporarily leased or lent by developers or municipalities to local community groups, arts and culture organizations, startups, or charities? This tour will explore the phenomenon of “meanwhile places” in Toronto, where pop-up parks, markets, community hubs, galleries, and creative spaces bring life to underused or unoccupied spaces to the benefit of everyone involved.
Tour Cost: US$75 per person.
