Cities that once were considered on the edge the vast Toronto metropolitan region are now experiencing explosive population growth. The dramatic rise of these now-former suburbs into truly urbanizing hubs presents a new model for North America. The driver of this transformation is progressive municipal leadership. Leadership often competes with other cities—regionally, provincially, and nationally—for investments in public infrastructure, high-quality private development, institutions for education, recreation, health care, and, of course, economic development and employment. Join this panel of newly elected and reelected mayors of three/four of Canada’s fastest-growing centers, all within one metro region, to learn about the bridges and barriers to this astounding transformation.
